How About The Molding Process Of Carbon Fiber Products

How About The Molding Process Of Carbon Fiber Products

Carbon fiber is a new type of structural material. In the process of practical application, carbon fiber is mostly fused with matrix materials such as resin to form carbon fiber composite materials. At present, carbon fiber products have been applied in many fields and exerted their performance advantages. In this article, let’s take a look at carbon fiber. Compression molding process of products. The molding process of carbon fiber composite materials refers to the process of laying carbon fiber prepregs in different directions and different numbers of layers, and solidifying and molding them under high temperature and high pressure. This article Be-Cu will introduce to you the molding processes of 5 common carbon fiber products.

Paste Molding Process

The prepreg is pasted on the mold by hand and then solidified. The biggest advantage of this method is that the process equipment is simple, manual cnc machining is flexible, and it is suitable for small batch cnc machining and production; the disadvantage is low production efficiency, poor working conditions, and high labor intensity. The carbon fiber parts trial-produced using this process have good appearance quality, but poor dimensional accuracy and poor process stability.

Winding Forming Process

After the carbon fiber is impregnated with resin, it is wound around a rotating mandrel according to a certain pattern, and then heated to solidify the glue. The fiber can be arranged according to certain rules according to the stress of the product, which can give full play to the mechanical properties of carbon fiber; it can achieve continuous and mechanized production in terms of technology, and has a short production cycle, high production efficiency and low labor intensity. Small, suitable for the production of cylinders, spheres and some positive curvature rotary bodies or cylindrical products.

Pultrusion Process

After the carbon fiber is impregnated with resin, it is placed in a heated mold to solidify. The advantage is that it has high productivity and can press parts with complex shapes and accurate dimensions at one time. However, the process equipment is complicated and it is not suitable for preparing products with small batches and large sizes machining.

Resin Transfer Molding Process (RTM)

The RTM (resin transfer molding) process was the most popular molding process in the 1990s. The reinforced material is first made into a preform and put into a closed mold. Under vacuum and pressure conditions, the resin is injected into the mold and solidified. Its advantages are simple process and good product quality; low-pressure glue injection saves the cost of additional equipment; closed mold operation can keep the working environment clean; and it is easy to realize automation and computer control.

Braiding And Forming Process

The process of three-dimensional weaving is a process in which all the fibers participating in the weaving are arranged in the same direction, and then each fiber bundle is offset at an angle in its own direction and intertwined to form a fabric. Composite materials using three-dimensional printing and braiding have two major characteristics: integrity and mechanical rationality. They are superior to traditional laminated composite materials in terms of shear strength, impact damage resistance and other properties. Therefore, composite materials using braided structures are developing rapidly. . There are two kinds of three-dimensional knitting machines: circular knitting machine and square knitting knitting machine. Many complex knitted fabrics can be knitted with these two machines. But most of these complex shapes come from two basic shapes – cuboids and thick-walled circular tubes.

First, carbon fiber prepreg needs to be prepared according to the size of the desired product, and then the mold is cleaned to avoid impurities affecting the quality.

After ensuring the mold is clean, a layer of release agent is applied to prevent the product from sticking to the mold after molding. Next, the carbon fiber prepregs are stacked in the mold cavity layer by layer. After all the prepregs are stacked, the mold is closed, the press, temperature and time of the press are adjusted, and the whole is placed in the press and cured at high temperature.

After molding, cooling, demoulding, opening the mold and taking out the product, the carbon fiber product blank is produced, and then a series of post-processing treatments are performed according to requirements. The significant advantage of carbon fiber products is light weight and high strength. Its density is only 1.7g/cm3, which is less than 1/4 of steel, which helps to achieve lightweight structure.

At the same time, its mechanical properties are very outstanding, tensile strength, bending strength. , The shear strength is better than most structural materials. Carbon fiber also has performance advantages such as high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance, and will be used in more fields.
